2005 Beijing Conference

中文 | Français

On 25th July 2005, Metizo held the first worldwide conference on personal development in Beijing, China, with the theme: “The New Necessity in Higher Education and People Management”. Metizo involved speakers of both multinational corporations and higher education from USA, UK, New Zealand, France, Germany and China.

Personal development is becoming the new trend of future education. The three big authorities governing business schools: EQUIS Standard (European Quality Improvement System), AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate School of Business) and AMBA (Association of MBA), all have criteria on personal development for the business schools to gain accreditation. To pass these standards, more and more business schools are integrating personal development programs as a key course component for their students.

Personal development is also positioning itself as a key element in people management in companies. With fast changing economies and the impact on the talent market, employees are looking for companies which can provide them with career development and learning, so as to improve their human capital and long-term employability, rather than just to secure a job. It also raises a challenge for companies: how to design a system for employees’ career development to retain high value employees?

The purpose of this conference was to provide a platform for higher education and corporate participants to share their experience and vision about personal development. Experts from universities who are doing personal development and HR specialists from international corporations who are integrating career and personal development as part of the HR system of the company were able to exchange & explore.
