After the success of the first conference in 2005 in Beijing, Metizo held on 2 & 3 October 2006, the second Personal Development conference in France in partnership with Euromed Marseille School of Management. Like the first conference, it was a resounding success.
About 80 people in all took part in the event, with 30 to 40 people in the room at any one time, representing 9 countries on 4 continents. We had a highly selective cast of speakers and invested more than a thousand hours of organizational work before, during and after the event.
We were delighted to hear excellent presentations by representatives of leading companies including SAP, BMW, and Caisse d’Epargne. Conference sponsors ST Microelectronics were represented by HR Director Didier Gabin, who spoke about the personal development impact of HR software, as well as by Francois Suquet and Corinne Deme who gave a good presentation about the company’s HR paractices at its Rousset site.
We also had excellent presentations from individual expert practitioners in the field of personal development. Chris Thompson spoke about a study of managers for a leading software company that he knows quite well. We also heard from Bill Tysseling of Silicon Valley, who has a great deal of experience in executive training from the University of California as well as recently being head of one of the largest university distance learning and extension programs.
As a company, Metizo is unique in operating globally across the fields of corporate training and academia, and the breadth and depth of our contributors reflected this. The university sector was reflected by the participation of experts from around the globe. Professor Ang Soon of Nanyang Business School, Singapore (number 77 in the Economist’s Top 100 MBAs, 2006), and Professor Linn Van Dyne of the Broad College of Business, Michigan State University jointly discussed the importance of Cultural Intelligence in Personal Development, while Peter Reed, Director of Monash University MBA program, Australia, spoke about the value of Personal Development in MBA programs.
The diversity and experience of our conference participants once again provided great value to all of our attendees. We are already looking forward to our next International Conference on Personal Development, which will be held in Singapore!
