Due to SAP Labs China fast growth the development of talented individuals moving into leadership and expert positions is a key for success.
In 2007, Shang-Ling Jui, the Managing Director who founded the SAP Labs China in Shanghai, brought together an internal cross functional team to set up a development strategy for all employees, starting with a special program for key employees called FASTtrack.
Solution
On 12 March 2007, SAP Labs China kicked off the FASTtrack program for 100 key employees followed a one-year mentoring program. The participants were selected by their managers based on high performance and high potential; at the same time SAP Labs senior managers were coached by Metizo to ensure a high level high quality mentoring process that was in itself a development tool for these people leaders.
Following its success and with key development needs due to fast moving growth, the China Labs program was replicated in the new Brazilian Service Center in Sao Leopoldo.
- Impact on mentors
Outcomes
Based on self-assessment, mentors have developed in 3 key areas: helping mentees identify their potential and unique competencies for their future career, helping mentees discuss lifestyle issues, and helping mentees solve the career problems of their own team members.
- Impact on mentees
The most important part of the program was to get the chance to work with senior managers and to understand how to make a personal contribution to the company’s strategic goals.
