As one of the first international automakers to venture into China, Volkswagen Group China (VW) has 14 representative companies in the country, undertaking parts delivery and service provision for both customers and industry in addition to vehicle production.
Development of Chinese employees is one of the VOLKSWAGEN Group’s most paramount goals in China. To better support the need in terms of growth of VW China, it initiated the CPD program, aiming at accelerating the development of high potential young professionals.
Solution
In September 2008 Metizo launched the Volkswagen Group China mentoring program for a selected group of key employees as mentees with the support of senior managers as mentors. The metizo program offered a mix of training, group tutorials, individual support and personal counseling in the areas of career development, personal competency, teamwork, managing work/life balance.
Outcomes
The first Volkswagen CPD mentoring program run with Metizo shows positive results for key development indicators as well as for quality at the end of the process.
According to the Mentees, the most important part of the program was the involvement by senior management in listening to their dreams and helping them find ways to design a career plan that balanced realism and aspirations. The program brought the most value in helping improvement of key employees’ self-awareness and ability to develop their careers. Better understanding the mind-set of the future generation of the company and Improving their leadership are the key outputs of the program reported by the mentors.
