On September 15th of 2009, Metizo CEO Bob Aubrey gave a speech in a forum organized by Euromed-Shanghai Jiaotong MBA & EMBA at Four Seasons Hotel in Shanghai. The audience was a group of over 100 business elites in Shanghai, CEOs, directors, managers, entrepreneurs, etc, who were interested in their own career development in the current special economic environment.
During the global recession of 2008, somewhere between 18 and 30 million jobs were lost worldwide according to the latest statistics. Middle and senior managers are also affected. What does this mean for their careers? According to Professor Aubrey, the career has become an “enterprise of self”. The speech was about why drastic changes in work have happened, and what managers should expect to learn about themselves and their futures, Managers in the Asia Pacific region are also obliged to answer those questions, because of the global industrial shifts and strategic change at the corporate level – the threats and opportunities in terms of career development.
Besides, Professor Bob Aubrey also explained how a good MBA program can help students define the right career that fits their aspirations and strengths, help them match global talent markets and prepare them for the inevitable changes of at least 50 years of working life.
